The challenge
Provide a global perspective of the GIS community’s need and use of GeoNode, an open source GIS catalogue, while also identifying product vision and roadmaps for long-term development by the community.
My task
Define the audience, their needs, the current state of the product and its ecosystem, product vision and product roadmap.
Overall goal
Set the stage for long-term development by the open source community.
Activities
To develop a product platform strategy, I conducted remote interviews of GeoNode users in 10 countries, and surveyed their global audience.
The next phase, global usability testing, evaluated the existing and new designs through remote testing. The results defined product improvement priorities for the open source development community.
Outcomes
The product vision, usability challenges, and product roadmap were shared on Github.
