The challenge
The City of San Diego was introducing a pot hole app to replace its call-in model, yet it needed a memorable name that fit the City and the task it does for residents.

Activities
Naming a city-app came with high-stakes politics and civic attention. To gain alignment with department heads and stakeholders I developed a series of workshops to build consensus, capture their ideas and input, and find those names that would lead towards a successful project and public acceptance/adoption. I held two large workshops, where participants generated over 500 potential names, following each, I categorized the name concepts and did early rounds of due diligence to eliminate untenable names for the next round. After the final workshop, I developed a list of 15 potential names that I checked for copyright and ownership issues. Working with the mayor’s office we were able to narrow to a list of 5 that were shared with the mayor.
Outcomes
The resulting name, Get it Done!, fit nicely with the redesigned website’s primary emphasis—tasks that the end user wanted to accomplish—and City goals for the App outcomes.
