A two-component AIGA/NY design project that asked its participants to create a personal banner under the theme Urban Forest. Participants included inner city high school youths from the AIGA/NY Mentoring Program and creative professionals from the national and international design community. Completed banners hung in the heart of New York City, in Times Square.

A two-component (mentoring program and professional) AIGA/NY design project. I worked with a team to come up with the concept and project parameters. I led the Mentoring Program’s team; organized and designed the workshops; and recruited speakers and found venues. AIGA/NY led the team in charge of the professionals’ banners. Final designs were created into banners and displayed in Times Square. In keeping with the project’s sustainable theme, the banners were turned into tote bags and sold to raise money to support scholarship and mentoring programs for students in design.

22 mentor/student pairs and 185 professional designers and artists participated. Pairs explored basic design principals through four student workshops, starting with a scavenger hunt in Madison Square Park and Times Square to expose the students to the concept, audience and location.
